Graphic Letters

Students will be creating a cut paper collage using similar techniques to Matisse and employing a graphic sense of the alphabet.
Students will create a practice sketch in which they will "blow up" and distort their initials and overlap them. They will then create a black and white pattern where the letters overlap. Students will then transfer this to their black and white papers, they will use scissors, glue and exacto knives to create a black and white collage.
They will then create an "inverted image" where the blacks become white and the whites become black.
Learning Intention: Students will be exploring the techniques of cut paper collage using their initials in a black and white palette while focusing on precision and craftsmanship .
Success Criteria: I am successful when:

Learning Intention: Students will be exploring the techniques of cut paper collage using their initials in a black and white palette while focusing on precision and craftsmanship .
Success Criteria: I am successful when:
- Created at least 2 practice sketches with different arrangements
- "Blown up" and distorted my initials and overlapped them
- Sketched out which parts of the letters will be black and which will be white
- Transfer one sketch to the final black and white papers
- Focus on using scissors and exacto knives to create precise, clean cuts
- Glued the letters onto the final paper
- Created two overlapping sets: one standard and one that is inverted (where the blacks become white and the whites become black)
- Focus on craftsmanship (clean cuts, clean glue application)
- Personal Engagement
- Both pieces are mirror images of one another with alternating black/white sections
